Substitute Ayoze Perez’s stoppage-time winner saw Newcastle come from behind to stun Tottenham at White Hart Lane and secure a 2-1 victory that lifts them out of the Premier League relegation places.

After fellow substitute Aleksandar Mitrovic, introduced for Papiss Cisse on 72 minutes, poked in an equaliser two minutes after coming on, Perez turned in a low cross that beat Hugo Lloris at his near post.

The hosts were heading for a victory that would have lifted them above Manchester United and into the Premier League’s top-four on goal-difference after Eric Dier headed them into a first-half lead.

But instead, they suffered a shock first league defeat since a visit to United on the opening day of the season and Newcastle sealed successive league victories for the first time this season.

Meanwhile, Divock Origi’s 96th-minute deflected strike salvaged a point for Liverpool as they drew 2-2 against West Brom at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday.

Jordan Henderson had put Liverpool ahead after 21 minutes, before Craig Dawson capitalised on Simon Mignolet’s error to level nine minutes later.

West Brom saw Jonas Olsson’s volley on the stroke of half-time correctly ruled out for offside, but the Baggies defender put his side ahead with a fine header in the 73rd minute.

Liverpool looked to be heading for back-to-back defeats for the first time under Jurgen Klopp, but earned a draw in fortunate fashion as substitute Origi’s long-range strike took a big deflection, wrong-footed Boaz Myhill, and nestled into the corner.
